The Big Latch On, a global grassroots event that encourages communities to demonstrate breastfeeding as a normal, everyday part of life, will be held in Chattanooga on August 5 at St. John United Methodist Church, located at 3921 Murray Hills Drive.
The event will feature children’s activities, vendors, displays from local breastfeeding support groups and family-oriented programs, light refreshments and a free class on Cloth Diapering on a Budget. Nursing moms are invited to try and break the 2016 global record of 17,992 children breastfeeding at the same time across the world, says Jennifer Scanlan de Salmerón, a nutritionist with the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Health Department. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. for the timed “latch on” at 10:30 a.m. Goodie bags will be distributed to all participants.
The Big Latch On is being held in communities worldwide to mark World Breastfeeding Week, August 1-7, as families come together to celebrate feeding their children.
